I parked next to this car on 15/04/1988 at Cranfield Institute of technology, as it was called then. It was immaculate then.

Finished in 'Light Primrose Yellow' over a black interior, this matching-numbers UK home-market 1969 example has covered ~82,154 miles across just two previous owners and has remained with its current owner for the last 9 years. Paired with a fully synchronised four-speed manual transmission and benefiting from a complete engine rebuild in 2019, this exceptionally original, well-maintained E-Type boasts impressive provenance, backed by invoices dating back to 1974. It comes complete with two sets of keys, its official Heritage Certificate, and a box of spare parts.
Used primarily for social drives and local car shows, the Jaguar was bought by Brian to be enjoyed on the open road, where he relished its silky-smooth driving experience. He had specifically searched for a lighter-coloured Series 2 2+2, keen to take advantage of the extra headroom and practical luggage space.
Brian acquired the car in 2017 from a fellow enthusiast who had cherished it for nearly twenty years. Its impressive maintenance history, restoration documentation, and overall originality made it an easy decision to buy.
The car is now reluctantly offered for sale due to increasing mobility challenges.
Wheels and Tyres
The 15” wire wheels are in good shape, with mild signs of age, but appear to be good candidates for a deep clean.
The front and rear of the car are fitted with Vredestein Sprint tyres, with the front showing a spec of 185 VR 15 - these are date-coded from 2019 and have plenty of life in them.
Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.
Bodywork
The body presents very well overall, showing no signs of major damage or significant corrosion. There are a couple of minor, treatable dents on the tailgate and nearside wing, though both could easily be rectified by a specialist. The doors and bonnet open and shut smoothly. While the lower edges of both passenger doors sit slightly proud, which Brian attributes to new rubber seals, the bonnet and boot lids boast a positive, flush fit.
The underside looks structurally sound and the wheel wells are equally clean and well-kept.
We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.
Paint
The 'Light Primrose Yellow' paintwork displays an even consistency and a healthy shine. While there are a few minor chips and marks, none detract from the car's overall impression. Imperfections are limited to a mild surface scuff on the offside front wing and a small area of light micro-blistering around the nearside wheel arch.
Glass and Trim
The glass and light lenses are smartly presented, with good rubber seals throughout, save for some mild delamination noted along the top edge of the windscreen.
Exterior trim and brightwork remain well-fitted; while a few chrome pieces show light patina, their condition is well above average for a car of this era. The bumpers sit flush to the body and are in excellent shape.
Interior
The cabin has been well preserved, and retains an originality that perfectly captures the authentic E-Type charm.
Seats and Carpets
The seats have been well preserved, offering ample comfort and support - the rear bench shows only light creasing and remains in overall good condition.
Below, the carpets present well, with no evidence of moisture or dampness.
Dashboard
The dashboard presents very well, free of any notable marks or damage, aside from light wear on the centre console. All dials, controls, and switchgear look sharp and are reported to function properly, though the clock occasionally loses time.
The door cards, headlining, interior trim, and boot lining are all in excellent condition throughout.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The car is currently fitted with a 15-inch steering wheel, though the original full-size factory item is included in the sale.
The gear knob is in good condition.
Mechanics
An engine rebuild in 2019 points to exceptionally smooth and reliable motoring.
Engine and Gearbox
The 4.2-litre XK straight-six engine starts smoothly, firing up within a few revolutions and settling immediately into a rhythmic idle with the choke applied. The engine operates quietly, free of rattles or unwanted noises, and all dashboard warning lights remain off. A small amount of smoke was noted from the exhaust when idling on choke, but nothing beyond what is typical or excessive.
The engine bay is cleanly presented, reflecting a history of consistent and meticulous maintenance. Most notably, the engine underwent a comprehensive rebuild in 2019 by Classic & Modern Engine Services at a cost of £5,800.
The four-speed manual gearbox operates seamlessly, engaging gears without any thuds, clunks, or excessive mechanical whine, delivering that signature tactile, precise slot into each gear.
A complete new clutch kit was installed in 2019 and functions faultlessly.
Suspension and Brakes
The car handles the road effortlessly, blending a supple, absorbent ride with predictable, sure-footed handling. Free from harsh thuds or unwanted vibrations, the car delivers a genuinely comfortable driving experience.
The car brakes with confidence, with Brian demonstrating its ability to pull up smoothly in a straight line with no pulling to either side. There was no vibration or unwanted feedback through the steering wheel.
