Vehicle is currently undergoing complete restoration to original specs. Car had a total of 9,861 miles on odometer and family of original owner believes it to be correct. Car had been parked in (un-protected) storage since 1978. It stayed registered until 1981 but nothing reported thereafter. Decal, stickers, and license plates reflect same. Car had no title - only a registration. This was correct for NY as they did not adopt a "Car Title" program until 1973 and used the vehicle registration to show ownership.

This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II 2+2 was acquired by its prior long-term owner in 1998 and had its engine and transmission removed as part of a planned refurbishment by a restorer in Northern Virginia. The powertrain is said to have gone missing after the shop went out of business, and the rolling shell remained in storage with the prior owner until being sold in 2025. The body is finished in Ascot Fawn, while the stripped interior retains a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a black vinyl–trimmed dash housing Smiths instrumentation. Parts acquired as part of the abandoned refurbishment include a Cinnamon leather–trimmed interior components from BAS Jaguar Trim as well as a Moto-Lita steering wheel, Dayton wire wheels, and additional spare items. This XKE 2+2 project is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a clean Virginia title.

The Series II XKE featured open headlights along with taillights mounted below the rear bumper, and this example left the factory finished in Ascot Fawn. The selling dealer notes rust near the rear wheel openings and in various other locations around the body.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are mounted with older 185-width Michelin X redline tires. The car retains front disc brakes, though the inboard-mounted rear units are missing.

The 2+2 cabin has been partially stripped, and rust is noted in the floorboards. The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a black vinyl–trimmed dash housing Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles.

The engine, transmission, and differential are missing. Rust is visible below the battery mount.

Additional underside photos are presented in the gallery.

A set of Cinnamon leather–trimmed interior components from BAS Jaguar Trim will accompany the car along with a Moto-Lita steering wheel, Dayton wire wheels.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors, equipment, serial numbers, and production dates.

Chassis number P1R43139 is shown in the composite image above. The VIN on the Virginia title omits the leading P and adds a 2 at the end.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
