Additional description and photos from above auction:
This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was sold new through Hansord Pontiac/Jaguar of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in June 1973. Chassis 1S21795 is said to have been acquired by the second owner in 1979 before being purchased by the seller in 2014. The car is finished in Fern Gray with a black soft top over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ steel wheels with polished covers and is further equipped with power steering and four-wheel disc brakes as well as uncovered headlights and an AM/FM radio. Work in 2024 involved rebuilding and syncing the quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors as well as repairing the radiator fan relay and replacing the cam cover gaskets, bolts, and washers. This Series III E-Type is now offered with an owner’s manual, partial service records, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Fern Gray and wears a worn black soft top with a clouded plastic window. A forward-hinged louvered hood, uncovered headlights, and US-spec bumpers are further details. The seller notes various dents around the body as well as damage on the passenger-side taillight and corrosion on the rocker panels. The wiper blades require replacement, and the driver-side hood latch is broken.
The 15″ steel wheels feature polished covers and are wrapped with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires measuring 205/70. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake master cylinder was serviced in 2014, and the tires were mounted in 2024.
The cabin features dual bucket seats upholstered in black leather as well as a color-coordinated dash, center console, and door panels. Interior amenities include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and lap belts. The seller is unsure if the door locks work and notes wear on the door panels, a malfunctioning heater-adjustment lever, a broken defroster-adjustment knob, a missing driver-side remote mirror knob, and a broken driver-side door switch.
The steering wheel features drilled spokes and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along is located in the center stack along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. A replacement water pump was installed in 2018, while work in 2024 involved the following:
Rebuilding and syncing the carburetors
Repairing the radiator fan relay
Installing a replacement battery
Replacing the cam cover gaskets, bolts, and washers
Changing air and fuel filters
The car retains air conditioning equipment, though no accessory belt is installed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch master and slave cylinder were overhauled under current ownership in 2014. The seller notes that undercoating has been applied to the underbody.
A page in the included owner’s manual notes initial sale through Hansord Pontiac/Jaguar of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in June 1973.
The current Wisconsin title identifies the car as a coupe.
