Lot #247554

This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster spent nearly five decades with its prior owner before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2026. The car is finished in silver with a blue soft top over blue leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels coupled with disc brakes at all four corners and is further equipped with a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and a Philips AM/FM radio. This XKE roadster is now offered by the selling dealer with a jack bag, prior registration documents, and a clean Texas title.

The car is finished in silver and wears a blue soft top with a color-coordinated top boot. Further details include a louvered clamshell hood, sealed-beam open headlights, and wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-wdith Vredestein tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in blue leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include a Philips AM/FM radio as well as a sliding rear-view mirror, a locking glovebox, and a heater.

The steering wheel features drilled spokes as well as a wood rim, the latter of which is cracked in various places. Smiths instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as a centrally mounted analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 245 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The selling dealer tells us that that portions of the engine bay and chassis were cleaned with dry ice and refinished under their ownership.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
