Sellers comment:
This ia a beautiful 1971 Jaguar XKE V12 that has very limited miles on it. She has been parked in a covered garage since 1995 and has not been driven since. The car was fully restored by current owner when purchased in 1983. The origanal body and engine have been rebuilt with origanal jaguar parts. Everything is original except the tires.

Vehicle Condition
The car is in good condition except a few blemishes. There is a dent in the driver door, however the paint was not cracked. The car is in need of a radio and antenea, and a tuneup. Besides that the car is in good road ready condition. The chrome is clean, all hoses and belts are new, and the suspension is rebuilt. This car is ready to be your chic magnet or dude magnet, whatever your fancy.

This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was acquired by the seller in 2014 and subsequently underwent over $117k worth of work as part of a multi-year refurbishment completed in 2017. The project involved body repairs, a repaint in British Racing Green, and mechanical updates. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with triple SU carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ wire wheels coupled with four-wheel disc brakes and is further equipped with black leather–trimmed seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, air conditioning, and a Pioneer 8-track stereo. This XKE coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with refurbishment photos and a clean Illinois title in their name.

The car was stripped and underwent rust repair before being repainted in British Racing Green as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. The right-side rocker panel and left-side quarter panel were replaced and the exterior brightwork was re-chromed in the course of the project. A louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, sealed-beam open headlights, wraparound bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets are further details. The seller notes a wave in the paint on the left C-pillar.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Defender tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The suspension was overhauled as part of the mid-2010s refurbishment, and various suspension bushings were replaced with polyurethane units in February 2024.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include air conditioning along with a Pioneer 8-track stereo and AM/FM radio. There is a scratch on the inside of the windscreen, and the glovebox door is cracked.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. The seller tells us that total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors. Work in February 2024 involved replacing the carburetor diaphragms, changing the oil, and performing a tune-up.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with 3.54:1 gearing. The seller notes fluid leaks.

Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment project are included.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
