1962 JAGUAR E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC
£165,000
This example boasts an exceptionally rare factory specification. As confirmed by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, just 11 right-hand-drive Series 1 3.8 Fixed Head Coupés were produced in Cream with a Dark Blue interior. As a UK-delivered example in this highly desirable colour combination, chassis 860235 represents a remarkably rare opportunity.
Manufactured on 19 February 1962 and dispatched on 14 March 1962, it was supplied new via Henlys of London through Highway Motors of Hertford. Its history is equally impressive. The accompanying documentation stretches back to the late 1960s and provides a substantial record of invoices, correspondence and period material, demonstrating decades of continuous care and maintenance.
The car has clearly been enjoyed properly having participated in numerous Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club events over the years, including the famous Silverstone Guinness World Record parade in 2011, held to mark the E-type’s 50th anniversary.
In more recent times, the car has been the subject of a major restoration, with over £172,000 invested since October 2017. A comprehensive rebuild was carried out by XK Motorsport, covering the bodywork, chassis, suspension, drivetrain, braking systems and electrics, along with a full engine rebuild. This work was complemented by a number of sensible, reliability-focused upgrades, including uprated brakes and an aluminium radiator.
Upon its arrival at Tom Hartley Jnr Ltd, the E-type was thoroughly inspected and prepared by our in-house marque specialist, ensuring that it is correctly set up and ready for immediate enjoyment. Enhancing its provenance further, it retains its original operating and service handbook, along with its original registration book, both of which are increasingly rare survivals.
Today, chassis 860235 represents a superb opportunity to acquire an early E-type: rare, beautifully presented, extensively documented and comprehensively restored.
