An early, UK-supplied right-hand drive Series I 3.8-litre Fixed Head Coupé finished in Opalescent Silver Blue - a highly desirable manual example from long-term family ownership with a fresh MOT prior to sale.

Offered from within the same family for a number of years, this much loved Jaguar has been passed from father to son and is understood to have been used and enjoyed regularly. That continuity of ownership is reflected in the accompanying history, which includes a charming collection of period family photographs showing the car as part of family life over the decades, alongside Polaroid images documenting its restoration, believed to have taken place over 30 years ago.

As one would expect from an older restoration, the car now presents as an honest and usable example rather than a freshly restored show car. The paintwork, whilst still presentable, would benefit from cosmetic attention should the next custodian wish to elevate it further. There is evidence to suggest that the car was at some stage finished in red, before being returned to its current Opalescent Silver Blue during the restoration period. The interior trim has been replaced at some point in its life and, in keeping with the exterior, could be improved depending on the buyer’s preference. However, it remains entirely usable as a characterful and well-enjoyed classic.

Importantly, the structure appears to have benefited from attention during its earlier restoration, with indications that cross members were replaced at that time. The chassis number is currently affixed to the front member, however, the original identification plate is retained within the history file - a reassuring inclusion. Also accompanying the car is a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Heritage Certificate, issued in 2001, supporting its provenance.

Mechanically, the car is understood to be running and driving, offering the next owner the opportunity to enjoy one of Britain’s most celebrated sports cars immediately. It is offered to the sale with a fresh MOT prior to auction, further enhancing its appeal as a usable classic.

This is not a concours example, but rather an honest, early E-Type that can be driven and appreciated as intended. We are very pleased to offer this very early Series 1 E-Type Fixed Head Coupé, a genuine UK-supplied, right-hand-drive example from new. First despatched to Jaguar Distributors of Leeds, 881 AUM was specified in Opalescent Silver Blue with Dark Blue leather, to be supplied in the first week of March 1962 to fabric wholesalers James Hare Ltd. of Leeds.

Restored in the early 1990s, the E-Type has been with its current family (father then son) owners for a number of years, being enjoyed occasionally on the road before more recently being dry stored and driven sparingly. Having been restored some years ago, the Opalescent Silver Blue paintwork, although still attractive, would benefit from minor attention in places to make it perfect. The retrimmed tan interior is in general good order, with minor signs of wear commensurate with age. When viewed ahead of the auction the engine started easily and ran nicely with no obvious issues. A running and driving example, this early E-Type offers its new owner the opportunity to enjoy a celebrated British sports car which can be further cosmetically improved as and when desired. 

The Jaguar is supplied with a file containing UK V5c, JDHT Certificate, an invoice for the engine rebuild, photographs during its previous restoration, and a current MoT certificate valid to May 2027. A great chance to acquire an early Series 1 at an eminently accessible price.
