Car to be at auction 2/17
    www.coys.co.uk/cars/1963-jaguar-e-type-series-1-3-8-fixed-head-coupe

    Auction description:
    Lot 343 - 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe
    ESTIMATE £90,000-£110,000
    Auction Coys Olympia 2017
    Lot Number 343
    Reg. Number UK Registered
    Chassis Number 860759

This UK supplied right hand drive 3.8 has had just three previous keepers on the V5, and has covered a believed 795 miles in the last 20 years.

Purchased by the current vendor from a deceased estate after having been restored and subsequently stored for 21 years, the car was last taxed for road use in 1995. With his original intention to completely restore the vehicle to a very respectable standard, after reviewing the underlying condition and the exceptional originality of the car he have decided that such a radical project was fundamentally unnecessary and could in fact be detrimental to its overall heritage, so he simply has had the car recommissioned to its present day roadworthy and glorious condition.

The work was undertaken by Jaguar specialist in Berkshire where a mechanical inspection was undertaken. As one would expect with a car that had been stored for so many years, it required the replacement and refurbishment of the majority of the braking systems main components as well as the fuel tank, radiator, dynamo and carburettors. A complete service of the engine and running gear was also undertaken and the car was eventually started for the first time in 21 years without any hesitation. The engine and running gear is reported to be in very good condition, there is no evidence of oil contamination in the coolant or exhaust, oil pressure is very good and the compression on each cylinder are excellent as would be expected of a car that has been properly overhauled. The interior of the car with the exception of the carpets and headlining is all original.

The underside and chassis of the car is in very good condition and there is very little evidence of any significant rust or corrosion. The overall paintwork is in a good condition with some minor blemishes, which adds to the cars underlying originality.

Sold by the Classic and Sports Car Centre of Malton in October 2025. Abbreviated seller's description below

    www.classicandsportscar.ltd.uk/jaguar-e-type-series-one-fhc/classic-cars-sold.72 ...

This outstanding E Type has true provenance, just 1 of 28 Series ones FHC's built in Opalescent Silver Grey with Blue upholstery. A home market UK car in its original colour scheme, matching numbers and low ownership. Manufactured on 1 August 1962 and distributed by Henlys, Manchester, it was supplied new by Ashley Smithy, Cheshire to Massey and Quinn Ltd. By 1993 it was in need of work and partially dismantled ahead of restoration, then in 1995 it was placed in storage for the next 21 years. In 2016 it was recommissioned and put back on the road.

In 2017 it came into the hands of its most recent owner who has taken the car to the next level with major mechanical work and refurbishment of the under bonnet area, bulk head and space frame, all stripped to bare metal and repainted by Castle Classics. An engine rebuild was carried out by Tester Racing Engines with fast road head and uprated camshafts. A new finned sump was fitted and the carbs rebuilt. The original Moss gearbox overhauled by Hardy Engineering and new ancillaries include Fosseway fan, Marston radiator, high torque starter and 123 ignition.

Further work included manifolds and straight through exhaust, tyres, front brakes, LED lighting and a Superspoke steering wheel. Since the work it has covered a low mileage and is sensational on the road. The car retains an original feel and patina, the paintwork being older has minor blemishes. This feels like a preserved, rather than restored car. It comes with photos and invoices of recent work, the original buff log book, some MoTs, Heritage Certificate, owners manual and Jaguar wallet.
