Sellers description:
1962 Jaguar E-Type
This is probably one of the nicest photo documented frame off rotisserie, every nut and bolt restorations of a NO Rust and NO Body Damage 1962 E-Type Roadster OTS available anywhere at any price.
This is a “matching numbers” car. The chassis number, body number, engine, head and transmission all match the numbers stamped into the data plate, and is confirmed by the Jaguar Heritage certificate. The car is trimmed in Red with a Black interior, is show ready, and has experienced only the necessary break in and sorting out miles since completion.
This is the 2605 LHD car built, built June 27 1962, because it is an early car, only one year and three months into production there are many features that set it apart from other 3.8 E-Types.
There are many small items on the car that are slightly different than the average 3.8 roadster, various brackets and linkages will often be slightly different than later cars, all are original to this car and correct.
The car is Laser straight and rock solid, has beautiful chrome & stainless, and all are finished to show standards. The interior is finished in Black leather, mohair, etc., and it is correct in every way. The top frame is refinished in the correct Black and is flawless. As I stated above this is a no rust or body damage ever car.
Body: The body is laser straight, including the inner and outer sills, the floors including the boot floor, are all perfect and original to the car. The frame rails, picture frame, and bonnet are straight, and rock-solid.
Fit, Finish & Paint: It has Laser straight body, beautiful chrome & stainless and as you can see from the photos the car is as perfect today as the day it was painted, the bottom photos show the car was finished to the same exacting standards on the bottom as the top.
Interior – The interior is finished in Black Leather, Wool Carpets, etc., and it is correct in every way. The top is also to original and top quality. The fit of the top is excellent.
Engine – the engine was completely disassembled and new rings and bearings were installed on the original crank, rods, and pistons, then blueprinted and balanced. New timing chain, tensioner’s, gaskets, oil pump, etc. were also all installed at that time. The flywheel was resurfaced and balanced during the blueprinting and balancing process to the crankshaft. The engine runs excellent with great oil pressure at both speed and idle, 20 lbs at idle when hot & 50+ at speed.
Dated Electricals: All electrical components on the car are original. All are dated items, wiper motor and various gauges and relays under the dash carry dates from early 1962. ALL of the gauges and all of the switches on the car are also original, all components work.
Fuel Tank: The fuel tank is original with an original submerged fuel pump.
Other: There are many other smaller items on the car that are slightly different than the average 3.8 roadster as well.
Attention to Detail - the car is restored to a show quality down to the correct hose clamps. A 99.+ point car that drives as good as it looks.
The Matching Numbers are as Follows:
Chassis 877605
Engine R6363-9
Gearbox EB5463JS0
Body R4177
Conclusion:
This what Craig Jackson Chairman & CEO Barrett-Jackson Auction Company said in the July 2009 issue of Keith Martin’s Sports Car Market Report when ask
“Given the current state of the market, what do you think is the best buy between $100,000 and $250,000?”

Above auction ended stating no bids, clearly not the case as it had 5 bids on 9/11. Another ebay glitch..

Lot #243476
This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster is said to have undergone a rotisserie refurbishment c.2010 that included a repaint in red, an interior re-trim in black leather, and an engine rebuild prior to the current owner’s acquisition in 2011. The 3.8-liter inline-six was subsequently overbored as part of another rebuild completed in 2012. The car features covered headlights as well as a black soft top and rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels coupled with power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners. The engine breathes through triple SU carburetors, while shifting is through a Moss four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. Inside, a wood-rimmed steering wheel is accompanied by textured aluminum trim as well as a heater and a retrofitted stereo. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered on dealer consignment by Blue Chip Services—a BaT Local Partner—with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, records from current ownership, and a clean Colorado title.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights as well as taillights mounted above the wraparound chrome rear bumpers. This example left the factory finished in Cream and underwent a color change to red as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Further details include a louvered clamshell hood and triple windshield wipers along with a black soft top accompanied by a matching top boot.
Decals for the 2016 Copperstate 1000, 2014 Michigan Mille IX, and 2019 Santa Fe 500 road rallies have been applied to the body. The selling dealer notes a scuff on the bottom of the right door.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 205/65 Michelin Defender tires, and a spare is stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The low-back bucket seats are upholstered in black leather complemented by a color-coordinated dash pad, door panels, and carpets. Additional appointments include a cabin heater, a sliding rearview mirror, and hand-crank windows.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The tachometer is currently nonfunctional. Auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center stack, which is accented by textured aluminum trim. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, and the selling dealer tells us that total mileage is unknown.
An aftermarket digital media receiver is connected to VR³ speakers installed in the footwells, and an A.R. & J. E. Meylan Type 202A mechanical wind-up stopwatch and Lufft compensated altimeter barometer are located on either side of the shifter.
The 3.8-liter inline-six was equipped from the factory with triple SU carburetors and rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine was overbored as part of a rebuild completed circa 2012. Chipped paint can be seen in the engine bay.
The cylinder head stamp reads R6363–9, which appears on the engine block and the chassis tag in the engine bay as well as on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shown below.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Oil seepage from the rear main seal is noted.
The December 2009–dated Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate notes a June 1962 production date and lists factory colors as well as chassis, body, engine, and transmission numbers.
A Bentley manual is also included in the sale along with a wood knock-off wrench and other accessories.
