1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster Matching-Numbers * Long-Term Family Ownership * Extensive Documentation * Running Project Milford Auto Mall Sales & Service is pleased to offer an exceptionally interesting 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster, presented as a restoration project with remarkable provenance, extensive historical documentation, and a confirmed matching-numbers powerplant. This is not simply another E-Type project that has lost its history along the way. This Jaguar has remained within the same family for essentially its entire life, and it is accompanied by an impressive collection of service records and historical paperwork dating back to the car's early years. We also have an older title dating back to approximately 1971, adding another important piece to its documented history. Matching-Numbers 3.8-Liter XK Engine The car has been inspected and the engine numbers have been confirmed to match the vehicle. The legendary 3.8-liter Jaguar XK inline-six remains with the car -- one of the most important considerations when evaluating an early Series 1 E-Type. Although this Jaguar is being offered as a project, our technicians were able to get the engine running, and it fired right up. This gives the next owner an excellent starting point rather than an entirely unknown, non-running restoration candidate. Extensive Service & Mechanical History The documentation accompanying the car is unusually extensive and includes both period service records and later professional invoices. Among the documented mechanical work are: * Carburetor diagnosis, cleaning, rebuilding and adjustment * Complete engine tune-up work * Distributor cap, rotor, condenser, points, plugs and ignition-related service * Cooling-system flushing and service * Radiator removal and rebuilding * Fuel-tank removal and renewal * Fuel tank internally cleaned/bead blasted and treated with a protective coating * Fuel-pump replacement * Fuel-filter and sediment-bowl service * Rear differential service * Starter removal, rebuilding and reinstallation * Clutch hydraulic/slave-cylinder service * Flywheel resurfacing * Driveshaft modification * Sway-bar related repairs * Various cooling-system, fuel-system and electrical repairs The invoices provide an unusually useful record of what was addressed over the years and will be included with the vehicle. Documented 5-Speed Conversion. At some point in its life, the original transmission arrangement was upgraded with a 5-speed manual gearbox conversion. The paperwork documents the conversion in considerable detail, including installation of the 5-speed transmission, conversion clutch components, machining of the original-style flywheel/bellhousing arrangement, driveshaft measurement and modification, transmission-mounting work and shifter-clearance modifications. For an enthusiast intending to actually use and enjoy the finished car, the 5-speed is a very desirable drivability upgrade while retaining the character of the original 3.8-liter XK engine. A Genuine Restoration Candidate The photographs tell the story honestly. This is a restoration project, not a cosmetically prepared car being represented as something it is not. The body, interior and trim show age and areas requiring restoration. There is visible corrosion in certain areas, including portions of the floors and body structure, and prior service documentation itself notes corrosion in the floorboards. The interior remains largely intact but will require restoration, including upholstery and trim work.
