    Ebay item 9/13/09
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-1964-Jaguar-XKE-Convertible-3-8L-One-O ...
Car has a buy it now price of $121,000 for 20 days.

    Sellers description:
This 3.8 Liter 265 HP 6 cylinder 4-speed XKE Roadster is a true un-restored, un-molested, survivor with 20,102 documented original single owner miles - factory and showroom original in every way but newer tires (except original Dunlop spare) and maintenance components.

This car comes with complete documentation from the moment of purchase, its entire service history, signed letters of authenticity, current condition report and boxes of brand new replacement gaskets, electrical system components, replacement oil drain plug washers and much more - all factory parts, not refurbished, not aftermarket, not replicas!

By now you might have guessed that this car has been owned by an engineer. Yup, one of the most fastidious we've ever met. When not in use he's kept this Jag on jack stands (no weight on the suspension or tires) in a secure, climate controlled two-space collection room on epoxy flooring, and near-clean room conditions along with an equally awesome '31 Ford.

In preparation for sale this Jag when through a thorough inspection and received extensive routine and preventive maintenance, including:

    * A compression test of the original un-rebuilt engine showing:
    o Cylinder 1 = 175 lbs
    o Cylinder 2 = 178 lbs
    o Cylinder 3 = 182 lbs
    o Cylinder 4 = 180 lbs
    o Cylinder 5 = 180 lbs
    o Cylinder 6 = 179 lbs

Complete removal, flushing and cleaning of the entire fuel system, refurbishing the tank, new fuel pump, new level sensor, new sediment bowl and line filters, rebuilding of the triple SU carburetors, including new needles, and servicing the choke assembly.

Complete service of the cooling system including flushing, new coolant tank, thermostat and coolant.

Flushing the crankcase and refilling with Castrol 20W-50.

Complete inspection and servicing of the electrical/ignition system, including a new battery.

The transmission was completely inspected and serviced; functioning as new.

The exhaust system is original and as new.

The brake system has been inspected, is original and functions as new.

All gauges, lights, wipers, horn and other accessories work as new.

In all just under $4,000 was spent preparing this Jag for her second owner; perhaps that's you. This Jag purrs like a perfectly tuned feline waiting to pounce and runs exquisitely - as she was meant to.

The frame, pans, suspension are all original and exactly as you would expect with just 20,102 road miles. The car was factory undercoated. The suspension bushings and body mounts are not torn or cracked, but are pliable and not compressed. The underside is as dry as any Series I Jag fresh from the factory. Even the factory assembly chalk marks are clearly visible. All ride on true and round factory wire wheels with 185 x 15 Pirelli Cinturato 5/8” white wall radials.

The body is all original, undamaged, un-corroded and glistens as new. Minor paint work - which can be seen in certain light - was done by Jaguar at the US Port of Entry before the car was released to the selling dealership. This was disclosed to the buyer at the time of purchase and is reported and included in the documentation. The owner has made no attempt to correct this and believes, as we do, that this imperfection is part of the car's overall perfection. As a result, about 95% of the paint is absolutely factory original.

Like many perfectionist-owners, this Jag's owner saw and repaired minor deterioration on the rear valence. Then he created two weep holes to allow both side trunk cavities to properly and fully drain any condensation. He drilled an additional set of weep holes in the dual exhaust pipes to allow for proper condensation evacuation. All have done their job to prevent deterioration of original components.

All the door gaskets and body seals are as new. The sale includes brand new replacements should the time come for a change. The glass is original and one stone chip on the windscreen has been professionally serviced and is virtually invisible. All the surrounding window felt and seals are as new. All exterior chrome and brite-work is showroom clear and undamaged.

The interior is as new, with no excuses or disclaimers. While this Jag has 20,102 original miles in the odometer, the passenger seat has been used less than 1,000 of those miles; maybe less. The wood wheel, padding, leather, carpeting, gauges, toggles, surrounds and brite-work are all original and showroom fresh. The top is original and like new. The Izen glass is clear and non-yellowed, but has very slight wear in the fold.

Please note that this Jag came without a radio. But she comes complete with its tonneau cover, original tool kit, jack (with replacement pliers), brass and leather wheel mallet, owner's manuals, purchase documents, complete history, spare key and more.

The exhaust resonators are not correct for this car, they are 4.2 versions. No explanation here. Not necessarily an issue, mufflers used to rust out quickly during leaded fuel days. But what else is non-original?

    2017-04-01 16:07:33 | Bob Stevenson writes:

I just saw Jerrys post about the 4.2 resonators, which is correct, and they were installed by the dealer, shame on them! The car had the header tank replaced, a couple of water hoses and there is a question of why there is one phillips head screw in the commision plate. At the time I took the pictures I had no idea that the car would be shortly sold, if so I would have taken many more pictures and inquired about several small things.

This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was sold new at Sports Cars Inc. in Flint, Michigan and reportedly remained registered to the original owner before being acquired by the seller in 2009. The car is finished in red over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, covered headlights, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This Series I XKE roadster is now offered in Florida with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, initial purchase documents, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Wisconsin title in the name of the seller’s family trust.

The car is finished in Carmen Red and features a black soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, covered headlights, a Talbot Berlin bullet-style mirror, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and wrap-around chrome bumpers with overriders and front and rear grille guards. The seller states that paintwork was performed on the hood and right rear quarter panel after being damaged during initial delivery to the US. Blemishes in the finish and deteriorating weatherstripping are documented in the gallery below.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires, and a Dunlop spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The seller reports that the calipers and both master cylinders were rebuilt under current ownership.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a heater, lap belts, manual-crank windows, and a storage compartment on the right side of the dash.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, while auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors. The seller states that the fuel filter was replaced in 2022 and that the carburetors were rebuilt and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate shows factory equipment, chassis and engine numbers, distribution through Jaguar Cars in New York, and a build date of June 5, 1964.

The engine and cylinder head stampings match the numbers listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate as well as the chassis plate.

Initial purchase documents are included in the sale, along with manufacturer’s literature, service records, photos from previous ownership, and a tool kit.

This impeccable Series I Roadster is presented as a true, unrestored survivor, preserved by just two registered owners with an uncommon degree of completeness and care. Built on 5 June 1964, the E-Type was distributed through Jaguar Cars in New York nine days later before delivery to Sports Cars Inc. in Flint, Michigan. It reportedly remained unsold at the Detroit Jaguar dealer Falvey Motors for nearly a year, showing just 118 delivery miles.

The original owner, Stanley Earle Anderson, purchased the car via Sports Cars Inc. on 14 April 1965, trading in a 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II toward the $5,200 as-delivered price of the new Carmen Red Jaguar. A U.S. Navy veteran, Anderson went on to enjoy a long and rewarding career at Saginaw Steering Gear as an automotive engineer, specializing in the design of power steering pumps and fluid actuators. With that technical background, he was naturally drawn to the E-Type's advanced, race-bred engineering—shaped by Jaguar's celebrated 24 Hours of Le Mans successes with the C- and D-Type—and he was no stranger to the marque, having previously owned a Jaguar XK 120. It is easy to imagine that this motorsport lineage helped steer him toward another Jaguar at a time when a Corvette would have been the convenient “hometown” choice in Michigan. An extensive dossier of original documentation including the sales invoice, receipt, manufacturer's warranty, maintenance log, and complete set of owner's manuals provides an intimate portrait of Anderson's ownership, which would span 45 years.

An album of period photographs chronicles Anderson's early exploits with the E-Type, from taking the car home on the day of delivery and trips to his hunting cabin near Lincoln, Michigan, to Jaguar Club of North America concours wins in the 1980s and '90s (only losing points due to the cracking original rubber seals), until his final day with the car in 2009. In a history summary written by Anderson on file, he writes that the car was never driven in town for fear of “door-bangers,” was only driven on the highway to and from the cabin, and was thoroughly cleaned after each weekend trip before being covered and garaged. So meticulous was the original owner in his care for the Jaguar that he even noted the exact stretch of road where a rock chipped the right side of the windshield three months into owning the car! His meticulous record-keeping extended to service and maintenance documents spanning from 1965 to when the car was placed in long-term storage in 1998.

In 2010, the current owner acquired this time capsule E-Type from Anderson, recognizing its undisturbed originality. Shortly after purchase, the car suffered a stuck rear brake piston, prompting it to be placed into further storage and remaining undriven—only being started periodically to circulate fluids. Appropriately, that storage was in distinguished company, kept alongside the owner's Jaguar D-Type, the very competition-bred lineage that helped shape the E-Type's engineering advances. As a result, only around 500 miles have been added to the original 19,800 miles recorded by the first owner, mainly testing miles following sympathetic maintenance performed in the early 2020s after the car emerged from storage. Work included rebuilding the brake calipers and both master cylinders, carburetor servicing, and routine mechanical attention to make the Jaguar road-ready.

Today, the E-Type remains a marvelously preserved, reference-grade example. The Carmen Red paintwork remains factory-applied with consistent 3-4 mil paint measurements throughout, showing only minor touch-ups to the hood and right rear quarter panel—the latter documented in the original owner's summary to have been the result of “slight body damage at the port of entry” prior to his ownership. The cabin presents with beautifully preserved original black leather upholstery wearing an unmistakable patina, matched by original date-coded seatbelts and the original wood-rimmed steering wheel framing Smiths instrumentation. The original soft top, though slightly shrunken from age, remains in place and is accompanied by the original boot cover still presenting with factory grease pen markings.

Mechanically, the car retains its original Marston radiator, expansion tank with factory markings, brake and clutch master cylinders complete with period tags, and the hood's original lead strip—details that vanish during even the most careful restorations. In addition to date-codes and grease pen markings throughout the engine bay, the 3.8-liter inline-six features correct triple SU carburetors, with engine, cylinder head, and frame stampings matching the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate on file. Beyond the battery, exhaust resonators, brake hoses, and Pirelli Cinturato tires, virtually every component remains original to the car.
