This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe was purchased by the seller as a non-running project on April 27, 1971, and subsequently placed in storage. The car remained off the road until it was re-registered in 2015, and it is finished in black over a tan leather interior. Power is from a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, and work performed since the early 1990s is said to have included an engine rebuild, a new clutch, upgraded cooling system, interior refurbishment, replacement wire wheels, and more as described below. This Series I XKE shows is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a factory shop manual, spare removed parts, a tool kit, and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name.
This example is finished in black, and paintwork is noted on the forward section of the car following the installation of a replacement hood by the seller in 1971. The finish displays edge wear, and additional flaws including some paint crazing at the back area the hood.
Chromed 15” wire wheels secured with two-earned knock-offs are recent replacements and wear 205/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is managed by four-wheel discs, and the system was serviced with a fluid flush and lubrication in May 2020 according to the seller. The removed wheels are included in the sale.
Cabin finishes include light tan leather upholstery accompanied by matching door panels and interior trim. A Jaguar AM radio is retained in the center stack and has been reconditioned by the seller. The rear parcel mat is a replacement one-piece unit. 9k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, which was rebuilt in 2016 at 8,747 miles.
The 3.8-liter inline-six equipped with three carburetors is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The engine was reportedly rebuilt in the early 1990s by Works Automotive, Ltd. of Port Jefferson Station, New York, and was not run until 2013 according to the seller. Subsequent work has included installations of a new fuel tank, in-tank fuel pump, hi-energy starter, low-restriction air filters, a stainless steel exhaust header, connecting pipes, and resonators, as well as new shocks, hoses, and rubber components. The stock air filter and exhaust manifolds are included in the sale.
Stamping R9831-9 is shown on the cylinder head and matches the engine number listed on the engine block and data plate as well as on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and component numbers, as well as initial distribution through Jaguar Cars in New York.

Lot #239774
This 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the seller as a non-running project in 1971. Upon the completion of recommissioning work, it was driven for approximately one year and then placed in storage in excess of 40 years. During this period, the interior was reupholstered and seller highlights that the DOHC straight-six was rebuilt and the clutch replaced. A mechanical refresh was then carried out in 2015-2016, and thereafter the car was driven sparingly. Since being listed on BaT in August 2020, PerTronix electronic ignition was installed and the triple SU carburetors were rebuilt by Jags Plus of Port Jefferson Station, New York. Additionally, a full stainless-steel exhaust system was added, the suspension received a larger larger front sway bar and GAZ adjustable shocks, and the brake system was serviced with trued rotors and rebuilt calipers. This XKE was listed on BaT in May 2025 and is now offered again with a tool roll, a workshop manual, a spare wheelset, the removed factory air filter assembly and exhaust manifolds, a car cover, service records, and New York registration.
Some spots of paint crazing and spider cracks on the hood can be viewed in the image gallery below along with paint meter readings around the car. The photos in the listing and the gallery below were taken in April 2025, and the car has traveled approximately ~20 miles since that time.
Within the last five years, the rear suspension assembly was overhauled along with the front and rear brake calipers. A heavy-duty front sway bar was added and GAZ adjustable shocks were installed.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock, while auxiliary gauges are located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 9,700 miles, approximately 6k of which have been added under current ownership. The speedometer was rebuilt at 8,747 miles in 2016.
