This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe is said to have remained with the family of the original owner in Ohio before being acquired by the current owner and refurbished as part of a multi-year project completed in 2025 at the seller’s shop in Stafford, Texas. Work involved body repairs, a repaint, an interior re-trim, an engine rebuild, and a transmission reseal as well as overhauls of the rear end, suspension, and brakes. Finished in Obsidian Blue over gray leather, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors that is linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It also has enclosed headlights, power-assisted disc brakes, and 15″ wire-spoke wheels along with a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and a retrofitted stereo. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with refurbishment records and a clean Texas title in the owner’s name.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights as well as taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is said to have been repainted in PPG Deltron Obsidian Blue as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed in 2025. It features a louvered clamshell hood, dual side mirrors, triple windshield wipers, wraparound bumpers, dual exhaust outlets, and a side-hinged rear hatch. Records of the work note that sheetmetal repairs were made and that bondo was applied to the bodywork prior to the repaint.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Dunlop Enasave tires measuring 195/75. The car rides on an an independent suspension, while braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The suspension and brakes were overhauled in the course of the refurbishment.
The cabin features bucket seats that have been upholstered in gray leather along with color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. The dash is trimmed in black vinyl, and a retrofitted stereo has been installed ahead of the shifter.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer was reset upon completion of the build and now shows 119 miles. The seller tells us that the odometer showed 70k miles prior to completion of the refurbishment.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt by Motor-Head Industrial of Stafford, Texas, in June 2025. Work involved decking and overboring the block, reconditioning the connecting rods, and machining the crankshaft as well as inspecting and reassembling the cylinder head. The timing chains, pistons, bearings, and wiring harness are also said to have been replaced as part of the project.
The cylinder head stamp reads RA5689-9.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was rebuilt by A+ Transmission Specialists of Houston, Texas, in December 2024. Additional work performed as part of the refurbishment included rebuilding the differential, replacing the floor pans, and repainting the chassis as well as applying undercoating to the underside, inner hood, and fender wells.
The chassis plate shown above lists the car, body, engine, and gearbox numbers. The current Texas title lists the VIN as 890131 prepended by the sequence J64, which appears on a tag below the plate.
