Lot #263525

This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was purchased by the seller 38 years ago in 1988. It is finished in silver over dark blue leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a heater. This XKE roadster is now offered with owner’s manuals and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in silver, and exterior details include a black convertible top, sealed-beam open headlights, wraparound chrome bumpers, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. Checked paint and finish imperfections around the body are visible. The driver-side mirror is missing.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by safety nuts and are mounted with 185-section Avon radial tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake fluid was flushed within the last three years.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Dark Blue leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include a locking glovebox, and a heater. Wear on the seat bolsters is visible in the gallery. The horn and cassette stereo are inoperative, and the air conditioning compressor is missing its clutch and does not function.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,000-rpm redline, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 10k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. Equipment includes an AC Delco alternator, and the starter motor was replaced with a gear-reduction unit. Service within the last three years included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, and replacing the spark plugs, ignition wires, radiator fan switch, and fuel pump.

Engine block stamping 7R11909-9 matches the chassis plate.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller notes that second gear grinds if not shifted slowly.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
