This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was delivered new through British Leyland of New York and is noted to have undergone a refurbishment in the 1990s before remaining in a collection for approximately two decades. Chassis UE1S25667 was acquired by the current owner in 2018 and underwent recommissioning work that involved rebuilding the quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, adding a WOSP alternator, overhauling the air conditioning system, and more as detailed below. Finished in Silver with a blue soft top over Dark Blue leather, the car is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It is further equipped with 15” knock-off wire wheels, disc brakes, power steering, and a Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the seller in Indiana on behalf of the owner with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, recent service records, a tool kit, and a corrected Illinois title in the owner’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Silver and was reportedly refinished as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed in the 1990s. The replacement blue soft top is paired with a matching top boot, and additional details include a forward-hinged louvered hood, uncovered headlights, US-spec bumpers, and a rear luggage rack. Cracking paint and other imperfections are visible.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/70 Dunlop tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake master cylinder and hoses were replaced in 2018.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Dark Blue leather as well as color-coordinated door panels. The air conditioning system was converted to utilize R134a refrigerant as part of an overhaul completed in 2018. Further amenities include a Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo, a power antenna, a locking glovebox, and lap belts.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 72k miles, approximately 3kof which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. Recommissioning work performed in 2018 involved rebuilding the carburetors and adding a WOSP alternator as well as replacing the fuel pump, battery, and spark plugs.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch cylinders were replaced in 2018.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors, identification numbers, and a production date of April 11, 1974.
An owner’s handbook, tool kit, and spare parts will also accompany the car.
The Illinois title carries a “Corrected” notation under the Title Type section and lists the car as a coupe.
