Sellers description:
1970 Jaguar E-Type XKE For Sale:
I purchased this vehicle in 2004 from a very good friend of mine who had owned the car since 1972. This is an E-Type 2+2 that is in very good condition. Like any used car that is this old, there are some things that will need attention. I will, to the best of my ability, attempt to describe all the features of this car, as well as the condition of the car and what items need to be given attention. The car has not been running for approximately 8 months, but will crank with the battery charged. When I last attempted to start it, it would just turn over and would not fire up. The car also needs to have the brakes looked at. The pedal goes to the floor with no resistance. Now for a breakdown: The 2nd owner told me the car was stolen in the late 70's and recovered the next day. The parts that were stolen from the car were the speedometer, 2 front bucket seats, radio with holder, and air cleaner. Other than those items, the car is original with the original 4.2 liter engine and 4 speed manual transmission. When the car was stolen, the odometer had approximately 50,000 miles on it. Since replacing the speedometer, there has only been approximately 6700 miles driven on the car.
Mechanical:
Car was running, but has not started in approximately 8 months. Engine will crank, however, the car will not start. When the car was running, there was what sounded like a bad tappet. I could hear a ticking while the engine was running but it had power while driving. When I went to drive the car one day, I started it and started to move when I noticed it had no brakes. The reservoir was empty, so I think there is probably a leak. During the auction, I will be having the car taken to the shop to see about the brakes as well as getting the car running.
Exterior:
Car is in nice shape as you can see from the pictures. There is a little rust below the battery holder on the driver's side, with some perforation, as shown in the picture. The car was re-painted sometime in the mid-eighties, and I think the paint still looks pretty good. There are also a few surface scratches here and there and a small discoloration on the passenger side front fender. The car has a good exhaust system with good chrome and the bumpers are in excellet shape. The chrome around the windows still looks pretty good and there are no chips or cracks in the glass.
Interior:
The interior of the car will need some TLC. The car needs new carpeting and 2 new sun visors. The radio is missing and the console needs a bit of cosmetic work. The clock does not work but I believe all the other guages work with the exception of the tachometer which has a mind of it's own and works when it feels like it. The 2 front buckets are in good condition and the small rear seat does not have any tears.

1970 Jaguar E-Type 2+2
This Jaguar drives better than any E Type I have driven. The previous customer spent a lot of money on the mechanical side and was going to do a frame off next. It is a great daily driver or prospect for a restoration. The paint is in good shape and the interior is very clean. There are minor cosmetic blemishes here and there, but this is a really nice car.
